In early November, I took an online workshop called Cooking Up Comics hosted by Crucial Comix (which has tons of cool classes and workshops, all sliding scale and all online!). The workshop was taught by Mariah-Rose Marie, author & illustrator of Cook Like Your Ancestors. During the course of the three-hour workshop, I managed to get the first three pages of this sketched and the cover inked, and then immediately had to back-burner the rest of it for the remainder of fall semester in favor of, you know, my actual schoolwork.
But then I made it to winter break! So I whipped up a batch of these cinnamon rolls and busted out the rest of the zine.
You can download the pdf here — for free! (or for a small tip <3)
This is one of my favorite recipes, adapted from one I found somewhere online years ago, but over the years I’ve played around with it, ultimately making it MORE PUMPKIN-Y and extra spice-y.
The zine looks like this on the outside:
and like this on the inside:
….but because it’s a mini-zine printed on a single page, it will come out of your printer looking like this. Utter chaos.

Here’s youtube instructions for how to assemble it (you will need scissors!), or if you’d like a song to accompany your folding efforts, I offer you this completely excellent reel.
Or, if you want me to mail you a physical copy already assembled and reading-ready, email me at sparklemaia.art@gmail.com with your mailing address and venmo me (@maiafo) a dollar to cover printing & postage! Same offer goes for the soup recipe zine I put together this summer. (Eventually I’ll get an actual storefront going for this sort of thing, but for now, we’re doing things low-tech.) If you’re in the White River Junction area and you’re reading this, and you need sourdough starter, I’ll deliver that to you, too.
Happy baking!
