Summer isn’t traditionally soup season, but I’ve been meaning to make a recipe zine forever, and summer break was when I finally had time for it, so: soup time.
I tend to be a measure-with-your-heart kind of cook, so this recipe zine ended up being an exercise in reverse-engineering: I drew the pages first, approximating ingredients, quantities, and timing from memory, then tried to follow my own instructions, inevitably going off-script as I cooked. After brewing each soup, I went back and corrected all of the recipe pages to reflect what I had actually done.
The result is this cute little six-recipe zine! I have optimistically christened it volume one, in the hopes that there will be sequels. (I have so many soup recipes bubbling in my brain. The limiting factor, as usual, is time. This one tiny volume took me the entire month of July to make, partly because I had to recipe-test each soup a few times!)
You can download the pdf for free (or for a small tip) here. My friend Shay has a great tutorial on their website on how to assemble this type of mini-zine, or if you’re more of a youtube tutorial kinda person, here’s a good one.
And here are the pages all on their own:
Happy cooking! If you have a favorite vegan soup recipe, email it to me at sparklemaia.art@gmail.com!
I showed these to my MomKit and she is so excited to try some soups! She loves your amazing artwork too!
Wonderful zine and recipes! As soon as it gets cooler, I will make some!
